Changing of the Guard
Our life at Catholic Cemeteries is first and foremost a ministry. So it goes without saying that our Manager of Ministry is a key position at the cemeteries. We have been blessed to have Deacon Steve Grandinetti in this role for the last 10 years. Now in his 70’s, and his wife Rose recently retiring, Deacon decided it was time to enjoy retirement with Rose, his children and grandchildren. His last official day at the cemeteries was December 30, 2017. Deacon Steve will continue to perform ministry at his home parish, St. Patrick’s in Gretna. We wish Deacon Steve and Rose the best in their retirement.
We are also pleased to announce the hiring of our new Manager of Ministry, Deacon Norm Tierney. Deacon Norm started on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Deacon Norm was ordained a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church in 2015. He is assigned to assist at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in northwest Omaha and is involved in several areas of ministry. Deacon Norm is retired from All State Insurance where he was a Staff Claims Service Adjuster. He previously worked 30 years at Qwest Communications, primarily in Corporate Security and Risk Management. Deacon is also retired from the US Coast Guard Reserve. Deacon Norm is married and he and his wife Joyce have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren.
Deacon Norm will work mornings at the cemeteries meeting with families experiencing the loss of a loved one, planning our monthly Masses and special events, and performing or assisting at committals. Deacon Jim Tardy, our Manager of Outreach, works in the afternoons meeting with families experiencing the loss of a loved one, and plans and manages our outreach initiatives, and performing or assisting at committals.
Join us in welcoming Deacon Norm, and please keep all of our deacons in your prayers.
Deacon Dan
